CANYON CORRIDOR CONNECTION

| 9

G

REAT THINGS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING at Imagine Cortez Park as we continue to partner with Grand Canyon University. In October, we

had 200 GCU students come and tutor 200 Imagine students for two and a half hours! GCU students continue to volunteer

weekly in our classrooms.

Hands Giving Hope along with Imagine sponsored a Christmas dinner for 500 refugees. They also provided much needed bedding and mattresses

for refugees, including a 90-year-old woman, who were sleeping on the floor. Thank you, GCU, for helping us make this connection through the

Canyon Corridor. Imagine Schools continue to provide a great education for K-8 students, as well as physical, educational and social needs for the

disadvantaged.

To learn more about Imagine Schools – Cortez Park, set up a tour to view the learning facilities or see how you can provide additional

support for students and their parents, call: Tracie Scala at 602-589-9840 or 602-619-3587 | 3535W. Dunlap Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85051

and the Arizona Cardinals, robotics is the rage at Bourgade

Catholic High School.

Robotics was introduced in our physical science classes in spring 2014 using

LEGO robotics kits. Students engaged in inquiry-

type activities in the areas of science, computer

science, technology, engineering andmathematics.

They were hooked!

The Robotics Club quickly formed and employed

some of the Next Generation Science Standards.

Our students now design, build and program

robots to complete tasks or to solve problems.

The Robotics Club completed their first competition

in February 2015 at the regional FIRST TECH

Challenge. The initial round was an eye-opener for

the team, which scored only 20 points. However, rather than be discouraged,

the team addressed issues with the robot, changed out parts provided by

other teams andpracticed, resulting in a final roundof 203 points—and awin.

Beginning in fall 2015, robotics will be offered at Bourgade as a one-credit

science elective course to juniors and seniors who have recommendations

from the science andmath departments. The curriculumwill include the

fundamentals of problem-solving, program software, hardware design

and robotic-specific programming, while applying science, technology,

engineering andmath (STEM) concepts.

Robotics is just one of the many exciting educational advances

being made at Bourgade Catholic High School. For application and

admission information, please contact Ms. Mary Ann Burns at maburns@

bourgadecatholic.org.

Bourgade Catholic High School is a co-educational college
