This Thursday marks a transitional moment for GCU’s student leadership.

Associated Students of GCU president Nick Ely and vice president Trent Bruns will step down at the end of the year. They will be succeeded by a new student-leader duo to be elected this week.

This year’s presidential candidates are junior Jordan Hester (with vice presidential candidate Jenna Chittenden) and sophomore Suji Shin (running with junior vice presidential candidate Samara “Samy” Carlon).

ASGCU hosts a political debate tonight at 6 p.m. at Antelope Gym so students can learn about campus issues, events, activities and programs.

The ASGCU president serves as the voice for the student body, often working with the Student Life office to shepherd ideas and grievances through the proper administrative channels.

Voting takes place Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Thunder Alley. A student ID is required to cast a vote, said Sarah Thatcher, who oversees ASGCU as student involvement manager. ASGCU also plans to hold an election results party at 5 p.m. Thursday at Thunderground with free pizza for students.

Students can share questions and concerns with ASGCU via email at [email protected] or in person at the ASGCU office at Prescott Hall.
