Welcome Week attracted tens of thousands to Grand Canyon University as parents helped first-year students move into their residences while returning students headed back to campus after a four-month break.

A plethora of events helped acclimate newcomers and provided new opportunities for returning students.

As usual, GCU Welcome Programs and other groups were prepared for the masses. Here’s a look at the numbers:

21,000-plus – Items sold at the Lope Shop Aug. 25-29

14,420 – Event check-ins

8,055 – Unique event guests

27 – Golf carts rented

7,080 – New students who completed their online orientation module

500-plus – Student volunteers

11,875 – Curbside appointments

98 – A-Frame signs placed around campus

298 – People registered for Family Weekend Oct. 10-11

282 – Transfer and out-of-state student social check-ins

170 – Open house check-ins

633 – The Sweet Life of ASGCU check-ins

GCU Dining

40 – Dozens of doughnuts for Thursday’s Lope Family Sendoff

240 – Pounds of barbecue chicken served Wednesday by Lopes Training Table (approximately 300 pieces)

259 – Pounds of brisket served Thursday

342 – Pounds of ribs (approximately 200 racks) served Friday

84.5 – Average people served per hour

CAB

The Canyon Activities Board-sponsored Canyon Cool Down attracted nearly 2,700 students to the Grove.
