History professor wows students with classic cars

Talk about greased lightning. Students were struck Thursday night when David Dean, assistant professor of history at GCU, brought his 1965 hot rod Corvair to campus for the Lopes Country Fair. His was one of three cars from the Cactus Corvair Club at the student event with the theme of the movie “Grease.” Dean said he loves talking to students about cars because it build rapport and is an entry into his favorite subject — history.

Lip Sync soars with talent and humor

The McFly’s mixed a humorous video, slick hip hop moves, acrobatic stunts and classic pop songs to capture the 11th annual Lip Sync Battle before a roaring, record crowd of 7,000 Thursday night at GCU Arena. The 17 men in McFly’s, channeling Back to the Future, took the stage first among seven exceptional acts.

Paint Night: Students’ brush with creativity

Grand Canyon University summer school students reveled in the opportunity to chat, munch on refreshments and channel their inner van Gogh at Paint Night, a Canyon Activities Board-sponsored event. The results were amazing: bold, colorful canvases, from black birds against a sunset to a baby blue narwhal to a prickly pear cactus and a giant pineapple.
