The Office of Career Services is proud to present its student worker of the month – Julie Sage.
Sage is a senior biology major working in the GCU Fleming Library. She transferred to GCU from the University of Florida two years ago and started working in the Library right away.
“I get to help students with research issues, answer reference questions and more,” says Sage. “Because I help students with research a lot, it has helped me in my own studies. It’s been a great help in preparing for medical research.”
Sage was not always focused on a career in the medical field. She was a performing arts major – focused on dance and musical theatre – until she became sick and spent some time in and out of the hospital.
She needed to pay her medical bills and was able to land a job as a surgical assistant. She fell in love with medicine and knew that was her new pursuit in life.
A friend recommended GCU and Sage never looked back.
The Library was a perfect fit for Sage, a self-described “big geek.”
She was also a perfect fit for the Library.
GCU Director of Library Services Nita Mailander cites Sage’s can do attitude and knowledge of library resources as a blessing to the Library staff. Sage is often requested by name to assist with special projects.
“Julie is a wonderful ambassador for the library,” says Mailander. “She encourages her fellow students inside and outside of class to master effective research skills. Her positive attitude and winning personality will serve her extremely well as she pursues her career in the health sciences field.”
