H
ello. My name is Paul Stanton, and I am the new
superintendent of the Washington Elementary School District.
I would like to thank the Governing Board for providing me
the opportunity to serve this district of such great tradition.
I would like to share a bit about me. I grew up in the Washington
Elementary School District, having attended Manzanita Elementary
School. I am a former elementary school teacher and an administrator
at elementary and middle schools. I have been a leader in both small
and large districts. Prior to being in education, I worked in the
business community.
My core values align with the district’s vision of “…achieving excellence
for every child, every day, every opportunity.” I, too, am a whole-
child advocate, knowing schools must meet the academic and social-emotional needs of
all students.
So what can you expect my first year with Washington? I want to build my relationships
with the students, parents, staffs and communities. I want to listen and learn about each
school and what experiences they provide for each child. I aspire to reach out into the
communities and learn about the ways our schools connect with their surroundings.
I want to continue the well-established partnerships in the district, such as the Parent
Leadership Team and the Business Advisory Team, and build new ones over time.
I want to work with our state leaders to retain the great staff already in place in Washington
and find ways to recruit new staff members.
Please regularly visit our district website (wesdschools.org) Facebook page (wesdschools)
and Twitter page (wesdschools). We regularly update these with success stories and
opportunities to be involved.

sported their three winning medals.
In Alhambra, we have the privilege of
positively impacting our students and
ensuring they have every opportunity to
achieve their American Dream… and our
students got a glimpse of their American

A special thanks is extended to Montebello

Milgrim for leading the Montebello team to
national victory two years in a row.
STEM Saturdays
Four times a year, nearly 400 students in kindergarten through eighth grade from throughout
the Alhambra School district participate in a Saturday school with activities designed to
enhance the science, technology, engineering and math areas.
Next year, the district plans to expand STEM opportunities by partnering with the
Arizona State University Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering to provide additional
STEM learning opportunities for students.
