CANYON CORRIDOR CONNECTION
Educat ion
Alhambra District Thanks You!
A
lhambra Elementary School
District is proud to provide
a quality education and
prepare our children for high school,
college and their future. In November,
the Alhambra School District asked
this community to support the district
through the passage of a capital
override election. This was the first
time Alhambra District asked for
voter approval for a capital outlay
budget override and we are grateful
community members showed their
continued support of our schools by
passing the override.
Alhambra Elementary School
District’s capital outlay override will
generate $5 million per year and
will cost the average homeowner
approximately $65.36 per year;
however, the override will not increase
the current tax rate. Passage of the
capital outlay override will enable
Alhambra Elementary School District
to pay off a community-approved
bond debt in advance. By paying off
the bond debt early and replacing it
with a lower capital outlay override,
there will be no new increase to the
tax rate. Alhambra Elementary School
District will use this funding in the
following ways:
•
Classroom Technology
– Enables
the district to purchase computers
and up-to-date technologies used
in the classroom and to prepare
students for college and careers
•
Student Transportation
–
Enables the district to purchase
additional school buses to provide
safe transportation to and from school
•
Renovation of District Facilities
– Enables the district to maintain
schools and district facilities, which
helps increase property values within
the community
We look forward to continuing
our tradition of excellence in ensuring
a quality education for all of our
children!

Honor Earned by Governing
Board Member
A special congratulations is extended to
Governing Board Member Mari Alvarado
for being selected as a recipient of
the All Arizona School Board Award
sponsored by the Arizona School
Boards Association (ASBA). This is
the highest award for individual board
members and it was only awarded to
three community leaders throughout the
state! The honor is awarded to a board
member for active service on their
school district governing board, their
leadership at the local, state and federal
levels, their demonstrated concern for
children of the district, their rapport with
fellow board members and their support
of ASBA activities.
Teachers Earn
Prestigious Honors
One Alhambra teacher recently earned
her National Board Certification, which
is an advanced teaching credential that
complements a teacher’s state teaching
license. National Board Certification is
achieved upon successful completion
of an assessment program designed to
recognize effective and accomplished
teachers who meet high standards.
Congratulations to Lisa Elliott, third
grade teacher at Montebello School,
for achieving certification. Alhambra
District now has four teachers who have
earned this rigorous honor!
Also, congratulations to Christie
Pentkowski, third grade teacher at
Granada Primary School, who was
named as one of 11 Rodel Exemplary
Teachers in Arizona. Ms. Pentkowski
will mentor six Rodel Promising
student teachers over a three-year
period.
Great schools help to make great
neighborhoods. Your continued
support is needed to make our
schools, our neighborhoods and our
children’s futures a priority. Thanks
for partnering with Alhambra School
District in fulfilling our nation’s most
important work: educating our children!
In Appreciation,
