Westwood Elementary School

“I can’t even put into words the impact this will have for some of our families,” Westwood Elementary School Assistant Principal Paige Bodam said at Wednesday’s USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program distribution. It was the second of two distribution events to families in need hosted by GCU and CityServe, which partnered to deliver more than 2,000 food boxes prepared by Shamrock Farms.

The Homecoming festivities wouldn’t be complete without the induction of some very special Lopes into the GCU Hall of Fame, scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday in the GCU Arena Hall. Making a difference in the lives of future generations was a common theme for this year’s group of inductees, professionals who have spent their careers doing just that.

Grand Canyon University has wrapped itself around Westwood Elementary, the first of three K-12 schools designated as an Academic Excellence Site. As part of GCU President Brian Mueller’s five-point plan, a team of departments, including K-12 Educational Development, the College of Education, and the Learning Lounge, collaborate to improve academic success in local schools and help young students consider college as part of their future.
