Jacob Faber is AWESOME

Though he plans on teaching in Greece and seeing the world, 19-year old sophomore Jacob Faber has never been on an airplane.  For now, he is content earning his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a minor in English at GCU.  His favorite activities include painting and reading.  As an RA, it is Jacob’s duty to be relational and meet new people, which comes naturally to him.  You can often find him drinking an iced chai with a good book in his hands, like The Secret Life of Bee, or listening to the unusual sounds of the Canadian band, Tegan and Sara. Student Leader of the Month: Derek Drake

The Office of Campus Life has selected sophomore Derek Drake as its first Student Leader of the Month for 2010-11. Drake is a double major in Christian studies and music. He is also a life leader in Hegel Hall and a worship leader with the Gathering band.

Casey Lee Smith Sings Original Material at Fender Band Jam

GCU freshman pre-med major Casey Lee Smith and his band played the Fender Band Jam on Oct. 22 at the Compound Grill in Scottsdale. The evening event celebrated the songs of the Beatles and the mission of Ear Candy Charity, a non-profit organization committed to music education for children.

Kenyan Runner Mutai Landed in Lap of GCU

How do you recruit a gifted Kenyan distance runner to come to Phoenix, Arizona? If you’re Kim Sims, you just answer the phone. The GCU cross country coach took a call from Kip Mutai last spring and has been praising the miracle of telecommunications ever since. Mutai, a two-time junior college All-American at Gillette (Wyo.) College, was looking for a school where he could continue his running career.
