Dr. Ken Blanchard told a convocation audience on Wednesday afternoon that servant leadership involves being a servant first and a leader second. “We need you to go out as a new wave that will lead in a different way,” Blanchard said to the degree candidates. “Self-serving leaders think the bottom line is No. 1. But servant leadership is love in action.”

“Each of you have your own journey,” says Jerry Colangelo. “It will be influenced by the choices you make and the risks you take.” The GCU and AZ Business Magazine CEO Lecture Series wrapped up the Spring 2011 semester with one of the most successful and well-respected executives in professional sports. Colangelo is the current chairman of the USA Basketball Board of Directors and is well known for his success with the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Eight presentations were made in a little more than two hours at the Williams Building lecture hall. The colleges of Business, Doctoral Studies, Liberal Arts, Health Sciences and Fine Arts and Production were represented. Dr. Kevin McClean of the Ken Blanchard College of Business served as host.

Four students explored the topic of “Social Responsibility and the Morality of Profits” in papers presented orally Wednesday at the Delta Mu Delta Honors Symposium at the Ken Blanchard College of Business. “This is the first time we have had lead student presenters in the five years we have sponsored the symposium,” said Dr. Kevin McClean of KBCOB.

We recently had the chance to sit down with John Kilroy, a professor for the Ken Blanchard College of Business and the College of Doctoral Studies at Grand Canyon University. He found his interest for teaching when his college professor inspired him to help students learn just as his professor had taught him. Dr Kilroy has been working for GCU for six years now and teaches classes for the Masters Of Leadership program, as well as in the College of Doctoral Studies.
