Alpha Chi Honor Society

Jeffrey Richards had no idea what to expect when he competed in this year’s Alpha Chi National Convention by giving a presentation on insulin biosensing for diabetic patients. Shortly before his Commencement ceremony for his bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering, he learned that he had been selected the winner of the Joseph E. and Bessie Mae Pryor Prize in Chemistry, which comes with a scholarship for graduate school. This is a testament to the collaborative community of GCU,” said Dr. Breanna Naegeli, Associate Dean of the Honors College. 

Saturday was a day of celebration as Grand Canyon University’s Alpha Chi chapter inducted 1,212 new members into the prestigious honors society. Only students within the top 10% of their graduating class in each of their individual colleges are eligible. “GCU does attract a lot of exceptional learners,” Honors College Associate Dean Breanna Naegeli said.

Kara Morrow is the first GCU Honors College student to be selected for a White House internship. The 2018 graduate is surrounded by exceptional students. Her sister, Kelsey, is a 2015 GCU graduate slated to complete chiropractor school in May, and her brother, Kaleb, a GCU freshman, is a National Merit Finalist and an aspiring forensic scientist.

God’s plan was set on warp speed for Rachel Robinson, which is why she accepted her diploma at Friday afternoon’s winter commencement just 2 1/2 years after enrolling at Grand Canyon University. Pairing efficiency with excellence, the Honors College member earned a 4.0 grade point average, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and a minor in Psychology.
