Video: Living and Learning Communities

GCU News Bureau

What were a dozen first-year GCU students doing with a bucket of pigs’ feet? (Hint: It didn’t involve barbecue.)

The Sept. 17 date with pork was for freshmen in STEM fields who wanted to learn how to suture. A dozen students who aspire to health care fields practiced stitching up cuts on pigs’ feet because it is the closest to human skin.

It was one of five days of intensive activities for GCU’s Living and Learning Communities, where new students at five colleges can connect with peers in their field and do something new. In this case, really new.

Student Tara Garcia said her parents had little piggies at their place in New Mexico, but she’d never sewn up cuts on their feet.
