University named finalist for BBB ethics award

Grand Canyon University is among the 15 Arizona companies chosen as finalists in the Better Business Bureau's Business Ethics Awards for 2014.

Five of the companies will be named as winners in their respective categories at a dinner reception on Wednesday, May 7, at the Arizona Biltmore. Ann Rhoades, the author of "Built on Values: Creating an Enviable Culture That Outperforms the Competition," will address the gathering and radio-TV personality Pat McMahon will serve as master of ceremonies.

GCU is one of three finalists in the largest category (151 or more employees), along with Empire Today, a flooring company, and Parker and Sons, a heating, cooling and plumbing company.

"Ethics and integrity are the underlying cornerstones of everything we do," said Brian Mueller, the University's president and chief executive officer. "The most successful business are not the ones that simply thrive on the bottom line, but rather are the ones that incorporate servant leadership and address the needs of others. Only then do people believe they are part of something bigger and perform at the highest level."

The Business Ethics Awards, sponsored by Wells Fargo, were established in 2002 "to recognize outstanding businesses that maintain a solid commitment to ethics and trust in the marketplace," according to Erin Harshfield, foundation director of the BBB.
