Grand Canyon University’s Technical Support department is providing students more resources, tools and support than ever. Many of the resources are available on the department’s new Facebook page, with the goal to making the resources as accessible as possible.
Jennifer Dombrowski is the Training and Development Specialist for Operational Architecture in Tech Support; she is also the administrator to the department’s Facebook and Twitter pages. The latter is the most popular GCU Twitter account online.
“We wanted to give students another way to interact with us,” she says. “We can answer questions on Facebook in typically two hours or less. It’s much faster than email and I can direct students right to the resources they need.”
These resources include frequent updates on technical resources, technology tips, screenshot images of ANGEL classrooms and systems explaining issues, video tutorials and more. The Facebook page has everything a student can get at my.gcu.edu and more.
“Every resource is fully functional within Facebook,” says Dombrowski. “It is a one-stop shop.”
According to Dombroski, Tech Support tailored the Facebook and Twitter pages to mirror a student’s online schedule and answer the most commonly asked questions. Expect to get a “Submit your assignment to Turnitin,” for example.
Tech Support provides live webinars, twice daily, Monday to Friday. These include student portal tours, ANGEL classroom tours, how to navigate the student success center, how to use the GCU Library and more. A resource series will include webinars on how to use make the best use of Microsoft products during a student’s time at GCU.
“As a student support group, we have the more contact with GCU students than almost any other department,” says Dombrowski. “We want to respond to questions quickly and provide resources that students can use for success while at GCU.”
GCU Tech Support is available on Facebook here and Twitter at http://twitter.com/gcutechsupport. The calendar of webinar events is available at http://my.gcu.edu/Pages/startWeekTutorialWebinars.aspx.
