Q: You worked with students quite a bit in California summer camps and through student-life efforts at Cal Baptist. What have you learned about leadership and aiding young people?
A: One of the biggest things that I’ve learned is that they desire to grow and they desire to learn, but often times, they also love freedom to figure things out themselves. I’ve learned to ask the right questions and guide them toward the right answer, because if I just tell them what’s best, then that’s all they know. But if I can challenge them to question, to think, and come to an answer themselves -- then they now know what’s right and why it’s right, and that’s far more impactful.
Q: You mentioned that you’re very “business-minded” with your studies. What ethics or organizational skills do you bring to your role as a resident director?
A: Organizational skills are definitely something that I bring to the table. I tend to see things in a very holistic picture. I want to make sure all the pieces fit together as perfectly as possible. Details are really important to me so I often find myself analyzing things from different perspectives. The little things make a huge difference so I try to keep track of everything to make sure it's accomplished correctly.
Q: What do you do for fun and where will you find that outlet at GCU?
A: I really enjoy music. I love hearing about new artists so I’m sure I won’t have a problem with 3,000 students on campus. I also love sports so that shouldn’t be an issue either. There are plenty of GCU sporting events and professional sports in Phoenix for me to enjoy.
Q: What sets GCU apart from other universities where you’ve visited or attended?
A: The rate of change and progress here is far greater than any other university I’ve been around. Things just seem to get done quicker. Additionally, the quality of the facilities available here are far superior.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories from living in dorms when you were an undergrad?
A: My best memories were just the friendships that I built. I met some great people when I lived in the dorms. There was always something to do. I remember us all playing games or messing around all afternoon and evening. Then at midnight we would finally start our homework, all attending the same 8 a.m. class with only three hours of sleep each day.
