Summer sports camps at Grand Canyon University are back after a year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Twenty camps are planned now that the NCAA has approved their return, beginning June 1. To register, click here.
The camps are popular because they teach the participants the fundamentals of a sport from GCU players and coaches, who play a big part in the camps, said Theon Carrier, Director of Camps.
Men’s basketball coach Bryce Drew “is a big camp guy,” Carrier said.
“Hopefully they have a good time, but outside of the fun they have they are working on those interpersonal skills and group skills that are important in life and sports,” he added.
It’s an important aspect of GCU’s mission.
“It’s another way to give back to the community and invite people to see what we have going on here,” Carrier said. “Hopefully they will want to be get involved in other things here, not just in sports.”
