Grand Canyon University's Ingram Honors College hosted its annual banquet Tuesday to recognize students for their achievements. The biggest surprise came at the end of the evening, when Selah Fronda received the Dean’s Award.

The top award recognizes a student who exemplifies the college’s core pillars through exceptional leadership and impact when it comes to the college's initiatives.

“I did not expect this award at all,” Fronda said. “Being in the Honors College, you do it all for the love and the supportive community, not so much for the awards, so this was an absolute surprise.”

After Fronda watched her older brother and 2020 GCU graduate, Elisha, go through the Honors College, Fronda was moved by the supportive community and the outpouring of educational and professional resources he received.

She wanted to experience that same community.

Event hosts Kaylee Aschbrenner and Judah Floyd welcome honorees and guests to “A Night at the Met” Ingram Honors College Banquet at Global Credit Union Arena.

When it was her turn to enroll at GCU as a freshman, the Honors College was her first stop.

“I knew they were a supportive community, so that is why I wanted to join,” Fronda said. “The biggest difference Honors has made in my college experience is that community. The community I found, especially in leadership, is so great. We have a space where everyone is incredibly talented and driven, and everyone challenges each other to be better.”

She became a part of the Professional and Career Development program her freshman year. Once she found her footing, she was zealous for more. She added the Young Athena personal development program to her schedule shortly after.

Her involvement continued growing her sophomore year when she became the director of public relations for the Leadership in Action Institute, a student worker on the college’s marketing team and the producer of the college's “Honorable Mentions” podcast, which launched at the beginning of the spring semester.

Fronda just wanted to be involved but in doing so, she set an example of genuine dedication and perseverance that led to her earning the Dean’s Award.

Ingram Honors College Dean Dr. Breanna Naegeli talks about the growth and future of the college at the college's banquet.

“The banquet was a powerful reflection of what’s possible when exceptional student leadership takes the lead,” Dr. Breanna Naegeli, Ingram Honors College dean, said. “It was an unforgettable evening made possible by their vision, excellence and heart. It is always a true privilege to celebrate and champion the remarkable honors students we serve.”

“We could not be more proud of all that our honors students accomplished throughout the 2025-26 year. Each achievement is a testament to their discipline, character and pursuit of excellence. As we celebrate this season, we step with great anticipation into a new era, confident that the best is still ahead.”
