This week will be dedicated to the Associated Students of Grand Canyon University.
Vice President Matt Shinn said the student government organization strives to be familiar and friendly with the students they serve. This week, ASGCU aims to share plans for the 2017-18 school year and thoughts about their current roles and seeks to help students get involved on campus.
“We and the student government can help students achieve having the best experience possible, whether that’s getting them involved in clubs on campus, the senate or trying to create solutions to issues on campus,” said Shin. “We ultimately hope to bring more awareness of ASGCU so that we can help our students in their day-to-day life.”
Touching on this year’s slogan, “Be Grounded,” Shinn explained that the goal is to create grounded students, grounded community and grounded identity.
With that in mind, all of the events throughout the week are designed to be interactive and engaging. Each event is scheduled to be two hours long on the Promenade in front of the Student Union.
- Monday: “Who We Are,” 6-8 p.m. ASGCU’s public relations team will hand out root beer floats while increasing awareness.
- Tuesday: “What We Do,” 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The Diversity team will offer a look at the different departments within ASGCU.
- Wednesday: "How to Get Involved on Campus," 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The clubs team will inform students of the 100-plus opportunities on campus, including professional development.
- Thursday: "How to Get Involved off Campus," 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The volunteer team will highlight ways to improve the surrounding Phoenix community.
“This is a broad spectrum of what we do,” Shinn said. “We don’t just want to hear our students, we want to act upon them, and we’re excited to see students ask questions.”
