The Office of Career Services is proud to present Student Worker of the Month for October to Sam Brunner.
Brunner started as GCU’s social media content generation assistant by making videos of University events.
“I took a Flip camera to games,” he says.
His role expanded thanks to his exceptional work, and now he coordinates the GCU Life page on Facebook. He is still never without a Flip camera.
His responsibilities only start with social media. As a member of the marketing leadership team, he designs posters and fliers to promote Spiritual Life events such as theGathering, Life Group meetings and ministry events.
Brunner also sings bass in the New Life Choir. He was a policeman in the GCU production of “The Pirates of Penzance.”
He is all over our campus.
“This job has helped me get involved in ways I never would have otherwise,” Brunner says. “I get to branch out with the people behind the scenes on campus.”
Today he might be on Facebook with online students. Tomorrow he might be editing videos, and the next day he could be interviewing an administrator.
Some of Brunner’s notable projects are the “Path to Pirates” video series that chronicled the making of The Pirates of Penzance. He films and edits the Weekly Update video for GCU Life that spotlights upcoming campus events.
His favorite projects are the one-on-one interviews he does with people on campus. He has interviewed everyone from GCU President Kathy Player to students walking down the Promenade.
“Sam is always enthusiastic about the work he does and he is game for anything,” says GCU Social Media Strategist Robyn Itule. “He is a great student, great worker and wonderful person.”
Itule gives him credit for his interview skills and ability to represent the story in the best way.
“He has a sixth sense about capturing the right footage and sound bite,” she says. “And pulling it all together to represent the story, the person and our school.”
