Career Services is proud to present its Student Worker of the Month for November to Jessica Schartz.
Senior elementary education student Schartz has worked with the College of Nursing for more than a year and a half. Her responsibilities include office and clerical work, but she has also earned a deep understanding of life in CON and an appreciation for what it takes to be a nurse.
“If I wasn’t so set on being a teacher, I know I would want to be a nurse,” she says. “The people I work with are funny and helpful. Everyone gets along and I love working there.”
CON Dean Dr. Anne McNamara is happy to have Schartz working there as well.
“Jessica has provided amazing support to CON since July 2009,” says Dr. McNamara. “She truly holds the value of an education at GCU in her heart. She has been active in many CON events over the years and provides great support for our faculty and staff.”
Born and raised in Phoenix, Ariz., Schartz is an avid soccer player, spending two years on the team at Paradise Valley Community College before coming to GCU. She played her last two years of eligibility as an Antelope and currently plays in a women’s league at the Arizona Sports Complex.
She is now focused on beginning her student teaching in January and graduation in May. Her goal is to teach in a 2nd grade classroom. She is excited to work with the kids who are still so “innocent” but “say a lot of silly things.”
Dr. McNamara might not be so willing to let her leave CON.
“She greets everyone with a warm smile and a friendly hello,” she says. “While we are excited that she is close to completing her degree, the staff and faculty at the CON will be sad to see her go.”
