“Her spirit is that of a servant, and she does this willingly,” says Office of Campus Life Administrative Assistant Terri Faust.
She is speaking of Office of Campus Life student worker Chrysta McMahon – a junior nursing major with plans to follow her mom’s footsteps into nursing in neonatal intensive care (NICU)
“Whenever I’m at home I spend a lot of time with my mom,” she says. “She works the night shift in a NICU ward. I’ll help the nurses. Go get them coffee. I just love the environment.”
McMahon hails from Santa Clarita, Calif. and has attended GCU since her freshman year.
“My resident advisor was Beth Nowatzki and she was great reaching out to me my first year on campus,” says McMahon. “I started hanging around all the student leaders and went to all the events on campus.”
Then her sophomore year she spent much of her time helping out in the Campus Life office where her friend Stacy Haddow worked. McMahon got to know the department well and became a fixture. She was a natural fit when she started working for the office in September.
Every day in the office is different as McMahon fills in pretty much wherever they need some extra hands. She has done everything from organizing receipts to managing Chapel attendance, and is also a fixture in Campus Life’s big events such as the Community Fall Festival, Canyon Cares Christmas and Make a Difference Day. She is looking forward to the next big event – Serve the City Day on March 19.
When she is not at campus events, she is feeding her addiction to Vans shoes. Old School Classics, naturally.
She owns at least 10 pairs right now. In colors such as lime green, teal, pink, yellow, black, paisley, red Hawaiian flowers and more.
