Grand Canyon University students from the Collegiate DECA chapter earned two first-place finishes, two seconds and two thirds in the recent Arizona Career Development Conference at Arizona State University.

More than 100 students from eight Arizona colleges and universities participated in the event, which included 15 categories ranging from Accounting to Sports and Entertainment Marketing. GCU had 18 entrants compared to 15 last year, and these nine students qualified to attend the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) on April 19-22 at Anaheim, Calif.:

  • First place: Madeline Campbell and Breanna Stevens (Advertising Campaign), and Whitney Rossi (Hotel & Lodging)
  • Second place: Chris Hidalgo and Ashley Kellock (Business Ethics), and Karla Ramos-Aguayo (Human Resource Management)
  • Third place: Spencer Haber and McKenzie Shaver (Event Planning) and Sarah Johnson (Fashion & Merchandise Marketing)

Three other GCU students are eligible to attend ICDC, based on their performance at the Arizona conference.

“I am so proud of our students and their showing at the AZ state competition," said Dr. Randy Gibb, dean of the Colangelo College of Business. "Analyzing business case studies and presenting business solutions is an invaluable skill for our students. We are grateful to have Professor Kelly Damron leading this student club and helping them prepare for their career. “

GCU also hosted a Toastmasters seminar for students who attended the event.

Bible Verse

Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, "We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn Him to death and will turn Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day He will be raised to life!" (Matthew 20:17-19)
