Red Cross Designates GCU Blood Drive for 'Recovery 2011'

By Jessica Barajas
GCU Blood Drive Director

Our upcoming blood drive on February 23, 2011 has now been designated an official Red Cross “Recovery 2011” drive!

With this latest round of severe winter storms, the American Red Cross has been unable to collect blood in many parts of the country.  This has forced the cancellation of more than 750 blood drives and more than 28,000 blood scheduled blood donations since January 1. As a result, in this period blood collections are the lowest the Red Cross has seen in a decade.

The Red Cross hosts nearly 700 blood drives a day.  Just a few more people giving at each drive could help recover the needed blood in only a few weeks. GCU AzHOSA has offered to help by trying to collect an additional 4 units of blood during our upcoming drive on Wednesday, February 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Antelope North Gym.

If you haven’t already scheduled your appointment, please do so now! At any given moment patients rely on life-saving blood products. The need is constant - even in emergency situations such as severe weather.  The quickest help will come from blood donors like you who are able to give now!

Please help patients in need by giving blood now to help the blood supply recover.

To schedule your appointment or for more information contact Jessica Barajas at 602. 430.9616 or [email protected].

Register online at redcrossblood.org and use sponsor Code: GCU

All presenting donors will receive a T-shirt from the American Red Cross and are eligible to enter “The Ultimate Elvis Getaway Sweepstakes.”

For donor eligibility questions, call 1-866-236-3276.

Identification is required.
