When GCU President Brian Mueller heard about the dire electricians shortage, he wanted to solve it, even though universities traditionally don’t delve into trades education.

GCU is doing the same for manufacturing, at a time when there’s been a post-COVID attention shift to manufacturing American-made products.
It’s the subject of the cover story for the November issue of GCU Magazine, arriving today in the purple bins on campus and digitally on the GCU News website.
GCU is partnering with Lux Precision Manufacturing, founded by GCU alumnus Weston Smith, as well as the College of Engineering and Technology and the university’s Center for Workforce Development to redefine education and create new opportunities in manufacturing for a new generation.
“We need to build things in this country again,” Mueller said, “and I’m really excited about being a big part of that.”
Other stories in the magazine spotlight the leap to 13 nationally televised games this season on Fox, FS1 and CBS Sports Network as GCU debuts in the Mountain West Conference; the inaugural year for the RISE 360 Scholarship program, in which K-12 students earn their education degrees at GCU, with hopes that they’ll return to their old schools to teach as full-time educators; and the $10.7 million gift from the Kern Family Foundation to cultivate Christian character education on campus.
