A few changes are in the works for Chapel this semester. The weekly event has changed its day, time and location. What remains is the same simple, uplifting message directed at campus students, faculty and staff.
The new time for Chapel is every Monday at 10:45 a.m. in Antelope Gym. The series will launch with new University Pastor Tim Griffin and feature guest speakers every week until December. Videos of each Chapel presentation are available at the Spiritual Life web site following the event.
“I think that it is a great idea to include all faculty, staff and students in Chapel because it is a chance for us to worship together,” says sophomore Christian Studies major Derek Drake. “I also love the fact that it is in the morning because what better way to start your day than with worship and hearing the Word? It seems to set the mood for the whole day!”
Students also can receive course credit for attending Chapel. Contact your Academic Advisor to enroll. One-half credit is available per semester. The requirement is that you attend Chapel or theGathering and write a response paper about a specific presentation.
“And really, it is probably the easiest ‘class’ to make it to,” says senior English major Anissa Rowe. “Why not show up for the majority of the weeks to get half of a credit each semester? That might not seem like much, but for me it will make up for the exact amount I need to graduate without having to pay extra for another class.”
The tradition of Chapel continues this semester with a lineup of speakers including Josh Riebock, GCU CEO Brian Mueller, Young Life Arizona Director John Irwin and many local pastors.
“I strongly agree with the spiritual aspects of this campus,” says Drake. “I believe if we call ourselves a Christian university, there should definitely be some kind of foundation that we can fall back on. Giving everyone the opportunity to exercise their faith through Chapel is a great start.”
