Mr. GCU’s Greek Gods Prep for Big Night

Thursday, February 2, at 8 p.m. in the Coliseum (a.k.a. North Gym) 12 men will battle for glory, beauty and pride. But only one will rise to take the crown of Mr. GCU.

The humans in attendance must dress for the occasion. Togas all around. For more information and toga tips, contact Sarah in Student Life at 639.6127.

Allow us to introduce some of this year’s Greek gods. At least the ones that would lower themselves to respond to us mere mortals.

Sam Brunner
Junior, Psychology and Vocal Performance
Originally from Montpelier, Idaho. Brunner loves psychology and music, and is grateful to be going to school for both. He is a member of the New Life Choir and has been part of several College of Fine Arts productions this year.

What is success, according to you? I think success is doing something that you find important or worthwhile. So many people define success on who you become and what you achieve, but I think it starts with what you actually do for society.

James Rood
Junior, Business Administration
From “Baller-ado” Springs, Colorado, Rood is All-State in badminton, fly fishing and Hungry Hungry Hippos.  He was nominated best eyes in high school.  His sarcasm makes him laugh but tends to offend other people.

What do you want to gain by participating in beauty pageants? Why?
I’m not a very selfish person, so I don’t feel like this question is for me.  In fact, if someone told you that I was doing this beauty pageant for me, I’d politely tell you that person couldn’t be more wrong.   What I’m doing is giving the ladies of GCU what they’ve been asking for more of for the last three years:  More James.  If by doing so, some young lady out there can gain a bit of happiness, write this off as a success story.

Steven Patrick Egeberg
Sophomore, Pre-Physical Therapy
Egeberg likes sports. He is extremely good at Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart and NFL Blitz. He enjoys letting the Oreos float on top of the milk. They soak in nice and deep to get the best taste ever. Then you scoop it out with a spoon like soup.

What do you think is the most important discovery of the last century? Why?
Sham-Wow! Because it soaks up any mess! And without it Eli Manning could not have made those passes in San Francisco!

What would you rather be, a door or a window?
Clearly a window, that way everyone can see the sun shining through me.

Nick Punter
Junior, Sports management
Punter hails from England, doesn’t know Harry Potter, and loves the Queen and soccer. Often found loving sports by playing them or working out.

To what extent can you go to win this pageant?
I will have help from the Queen. She is on my side and may well make an appearance. Plus Harry Potter helped me out a little bit.

James Prigge
Junior, Pre-Med

If you were given a dollar, what would you do with it?
If I was given a dollar, I would take a girl out on a fancy date and order two tacos from Jack in the Box.

If you had one wish that could come true, what would you wish for?
If I had one wish, I would wish to hang out with Selena Gomez for the rest of my life.

Jevon Estelle
Freshman, Business and Sports Management
Estelle loves to eat. Food is his passion. If you were unable to find him, he would be in the gym. All in all, he’s the nicest person you could ever meet.

According to you, what is femininity?
I do not even know what this means so I am not going to comment on it.

If you had one wish that could come true, what would you wish for?
World peace.

Josh Girgenti
Sophomore, Healthcare and Business Administration
Girgenti likes turtles. Jesus is a friend of his. 2+2 is indeed 4.

Tell me something that will make me remember you.
If I sung this lovely song to you:
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
My, oh my what a wonderful day!
Plenty of sunshine heading my way
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Zip-A-Dee-A
Wonderful feeling
Wonderful Day
Yes Sir

Tyler Owings
Freshman, Sports Management
Owings loves long walks on the beach and spending quality time with his friends, family and girlfriend. He is a philosophical deep thinker who appreciates the simple beauty and happiness in life.

When was the last time you cried? Why?
The last time I cried was when I was a wee lad, I was testing my strength by lifting the Eifel tower, and somehow during that process I stubbed my toe. I have never experienced something so painful!

Jason Richard
Sophomore, Business Management
Richard enjoys reading the bible, building relationships with the people, and protecting his heart. He also enjoys Heart to Hearts, listening to Justin Bieber (because he loves Jesus), and painting rocks. Praise God for that!

Describe yourself in three adjectives and explain why.
Hard working, Alpha Male, Jackhammer, Merciless, Insatiable

According to you, what is femininity?
Cooking, cleaning, making babies and blogging.

Alam Virgen
Senior, Secondary Education
Born and raised in Hermosillo, Mexico, Virgen moved to Phoenix 10 years ago, became a Christian and enrolled at GCU.

Describe yourself in three adjectives and explain why.
Follower of Christ, Crazy, Mexican. I love God, I love doing crazy and spontaneous things and I am pretty Mexican.
