Grand Canyon University’s Eta Chi Chapter of Delta Mu Delta, the international business society, recently inducted 32 new members during a virtual ceremony in which keynote speaker Dr. Helen Hammond emphasized what being a good steward means.
“Have you ever thought of how you live your life in the context of stewardship?” she asked, then referred to Scripture to find guidance in being good stewards, such as: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Colossians 3:23) and “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7).
Hammond said that a student’s role is to gain understanding, and as a GCU business student, that means building that understanding on conscious capitalism, servant leadership, ethics and entrepreneurship.
“Our world needs problem-solvers and critical thinkers who navigate these through a lens of passion, compassion, empathy and service to others. … It is the power within us that calls us to something greater than ourselves, to build a legacy of stewardship that speaks of who we are long after we are gone.”
The Eta Chi Chapter, which was named Chapter of the Year in 2020, has inducted over 2,500 members since its inaugural year in 1996.
Members have volunteered for such organizations as Feed My Starving Children, Phoenix Dream Center, Habitat for Humanity, CityServe, St. Vincent de Paul and various blood drives.
Student Chapter President Amber Baker and supporting faculty Dr. Connor Magnuson led the ceremony.
Special guests Dr. Allison Mason, interim Dean of the Colangelo College of Business, as well as Dr. Mark Kvalik, Vice President of Extension and Recruitment for Delta Mu Delta International, provided words of welcome.
Co-advisor Dr. Alex Theisen planned by the ceremony with the help of supporting faculty Dr. Praveena Jayaraman, Eta Chi advisor Dr. Moronke Oke and Hammond.
Other student leaders include Jonathan Gilkey, Dawson Aaron, Kat Rossouw and Evan Hoehne.
