More than 140 employers are expected to converge on Grand Canyon University this week for Career Readiness Week, one of the biggest weeks of the year for the campus’s Career Services department.
The four days of events, which began Monday and wraps up on Thursday, will feature job fairs at several colleges spanning an array of disciplines, including the Emerging Leaders Career Fair, held on Tuesday, the Colangelo College of Business fair today, and the Lopes L.E.A.P. to Teach and Lead job fair on Thursday.

Students also could make an appointment at the marketing photo studio to get their headshots taken; drop into various career tablings, including engineering, education and psychology pop-ups; and stop in to listen to a panel of risk management professionals on Wednesday morning, who shared how they navigate compliance, strategy and decision-making across industries.
Career Readiness Week comes at an opportune time, when students are about to graduate and are thinking about their next steps as they transition from college to career. Or they’re about to head into summer, which is prime internship time.
“This week is aligned with mid-semester to help students get ahead of post-grad success – to help students prepare for the job or internship search,” said Jennifer Singleton, Career Center operations manager.

Career Services is busy this time of year with employer information sessions, career fairs, résumé/cover letter help, mock interviews, LinkedIn workshops and panels with alumni or industry professionals.
Not that the department doesn't do that all year round.
In an academic year, the university averages from 20 to 25 career fairs, and that doesn’t include the weekly Companies on Campus on Wednesdays, when representatives from different companies each week set up on the Promenade to speak with students. Career Services also brings students to companies and partners with colleges for company tours.
Throughout the year, “We have over 100 opportunities to connect employers to our amazing students,” said Singleton, who added, the goal for Career Readiness Week is to make students aware of opportunities available to them and to help move them from “I’m studying this” to “I can turn this into a job.”
