Money Week expands with more speakers, events

GCU News Bureau

Bringing 100 professionals onto campus to speak to 350 classrooms is just one of the financial feats that will be performed Monday through Wednesday as part of Money Week at Grand Canyon University.

Students across campus will benefit from speakers’ insights and will have access to career fairs all three days.

“Every year our goal for Money Week is to reach more students and increase the value-add from the previous year,” said Dr. Randy Gibb, Dean of the Colangelo College of Business. “Our team, along with the students in the Finance/Economics Club, has raised the bar significantly in a massive scheduling effort to bring Valley finance experts into the classrooms to speak to students.

“We are excited for next week to see how that is received by the teachers of all those classes and most importantly by the students learning about financial management.”

Money Week was created when Dr. Tim Griffin, Pastor and Dean of Students, suggested that CCOB create a financial-literacy effort for students.

“We have learned each year how to leverage our stakeholders in the Valley to create this weeklong event,” Gibb said. “With the help of the Strategic Employer Initiatives and Internships team, we have created a collaborative, college-wide week of activities.”

Speakers will talk to multiple classes during their campus visits. One example of the expansion: College of Education students will hear about teaching financial literacy from Suzanne Zentner, Assistant Superintendent of Strategy and Business Development for Gilbert Public Schools.
