The community bond in GCU's residence halls doesn't come by magic alone. It takes resident directors, resident assistants and life leaders to welcome students into the fold, many of whom continue to live on campus beyond their freshman year.
The subject is the cover story of the April issue of GCU Magazine, available in the purple bins on campus and digitally.
Another big story focuses on the renewed energy to increase safety in the area, thanks to the GCU-led 27Collab coalition of 80 nonprofit groups, churches, schools, the city of Phoenix and other organizations. Their efforts have culminated in the opening of a new police substation on 27th Avenue.
Other stories spotlight: Canyon Creative, a full-fledged, student-run design agency that works with real clients; three sets of siblings who play together on Division I teams; Lynette Stant, an amazing teacher raised on the Navajo reservation who's an example for her indigenous students; and online student Tina Gilson, who wanted to change the direction of her life so joined the Air Force and completed not one, but two, doctoral degrees.
Some places to find the magazine: the Student Union, Thunderground, the Student Life Building, Lope Shop, GCU Arena, Colangelo College of Business, Learning Lounge (Building 66) and Building 71 (lobby).
