GCU Today has received a makeover.
The official source for news and events of Grand Canyon University has a new website as well as a redesign of its quarterly magazine.
The website -- news.gcu.edu – was redesigned to make it more interactive and put more emphasis on the content that readers want most, including videos. Readers will still find our featured content at the top of the page, followed by other recent news and “spotlight” news that will highlight content from our magazine and other sources. We’ve also added the ability to search for content from each of our seven colleges, or via other keywords. Other upgrades to the site, which was launched last week, include:
-- A GCU calendar with recent listings available on the home page.
-- Videos featured prominently on the home page. With the help of talented students from GCU’s digital film program, video has been an area of emphasis this year. There are stand-alone videos focusing on specific events at GCU, as well as others that add another layer of content to the stories that the GCU Today team produces. A recent example of the latter is this story and video on GCU’s highly involved Paul and Jacque Koch.
-- You’ll also be able to more easily see the many great photographs that University photographer Darryl Webb produces through his slideshows and other featured photos on the home page.
-- We’re all about social media and interaction, so you’ll see a new Twitter feed on the home page, as well as a listing of the most recent comments on our stories. As readers share their thoughts and expertise on specific stories, those will now appear on the news.gcu.edu homepage, so we encourage you to get involved.
-- There also will be reader polls asking for your input on everything from which film should receive Best Picture at the Academy Awards (currently displayed) to which other academic programs you would like to see added at GCU (coming soon).
-- And the daily Bible verse is displayed more prominently on news.gcu.edu.
The intent was to make the website simpler, cleaner, more user-friendly and easier to navigate.
The same can be said for the redesigned GCU Today magazine, which will be distributed on campus Feb. 24 and mailed to online students and alumni in specific markets. The magazine has a new look and some new content (be sure to check out our 'Lopes Up pages) as well as the stories that take a more in-depth look at the many great things going on at our fast-growing University. The cover story for the March magazine takes a look at GCU’s remarkable transformation in the last 10 years and some of the people and events involved.
As always, we welcome your feedback. Take a look at what’s going on at GCU Today -- and tell us what you think.
