Dr. Daisy Savarirajan also honored as a fellow of the ASA
College of Natural Sciences faculty and students represented Grand Canyon University at the recent American Scientific Affiliation national conference at The Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
Participating were:
- Microbiology professor Dr. Daisy Savarirajan, who presented her talk, "The Missional Model For Integration of Faith and Science: A Key to Kingdom Advancement in Higher Education." The talk, "sparked significant interest and discussion among the attendees," Savarirajan said.
- Biological sciences professor Dr. Ramesh Velupillaimani, who presented his poster presentation, "Herbs for Healing: Antibacterial Efficacy of Essential Oils Alone and in Combination with Herbal Extracts." He is known for his research in natural medicine.
- Senior Ethan Sipes, who's majoring in biology and psychology at GCU, presented his research in the poster category, "Faith and Phytotherapy: A Holistic Approach to Mental Health." Said Savarirajan, "It offered a unique perspective on the crossroads of faith and science in mental health care."
The conference spotlighted GCU's American Scientific Affiliation chapter. Savarirajan, the club advisor, and Ethan Sipes, president, were invited to share their insights on leadership development during an event seminar of local chapters and affiliate organizations.
Also, Savarirajan was honored for being named a fellow of the affiliation (read about her accomplishment here).
National and international delegates attended the conference, whose theme was "One Body, Many Gifts: The Diversity of Divine and Human Endeavor."
GCU's participation at the event highlights the university's dedication to integrating faith and learning, furthering the college mission to educate and inspire future leaders in the area intersecting faith and science.
