Ismael Posadas, an online graduate student from Tucson, has received the J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Scholarship presented to GCU by the Former Agents of the FBI Foundation.

Posadas, 29, expects to graduate in August with a master’s degree in criminal justice. The criminal-justice program was begun last September at GCU.

On hand Wednesday, April 28, for the presentation of the $2,500 scholarship to Posadas were retired FBI Agent Jerry Hedrick, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts Dr. Lisa St. Louis, Assistant Professor of Justice Studies J. Douglas Dailey and GCU Scholarship Specialist Shelby Butler.

“Dr. St. Louis has been a wonderful supporter,” said Posadas, who works as a truancy officer in the Sunnyside School District in Tucson. “She gave me the confidence I could do this.”

Posadas, who is originally from McAllen, Texas, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas-Pan American. His goal is to become an FBI agent.

GCU is one of four schools this year to be awarded the scholarship, which the foundation has given for more than three decades. Hoover, who died in 1972, was the first director of the FBI.
