Grand Canyon University Dean of Students Tim Griffin and Community Outreach Manager Jose Moreno visited the Phoenix office of Food for the Hungry to present a check for $8,000 – funds raised by the “Pray for Japan” campaign.
Food for the Hungry Global Executive Officer Marty Martin, Advocacy Manager Brittani Curtis and much of the Phoenix staff were on hand to accept the check and share a few words of thanks, and a prayer for Japan, with Griffin and Moreno.
GCU faculty, staff and students purchased “Pray for Japan” t-shirts and wristbands, and donated funds online. Food for the Hungry will use the funds to provide hygiene kits and support to at-risk children.
“This is exceptionally exciting, and I appreciate the heart in the response to this specific need,” says Martin. “We very much appreciate being able to partner together.”
Food for the Hungry serves more than 25 countries with a staff of more than 2,000 people, along with volunteers, advocates and teams. GCU staff and students can learn more about volunteer opportunities at Food for the Hungry.
“We hope to create ongoing relationships that serve the community and our student body,” says Griffin. “We hope this opportunity shows our staff and students that we can reach out to the world.”
