When Grand Canyon University Associate Professor Kimber Underdown submitted her video with the hope of becoming a member of Flipgrid’s new executive board, she never thought she would be selected.

The social learning platform, which allows students to participate in video-based discussion, invited its ambassadors from all over the world to enter the selection process for 24 executive board positions, and early this month Underdown learned in a Zoom call with company officials that she had been chosen.

“I was hoping but I had no idea,” Underdown said. “It’s really exciting because I do love the technology, I have gone to the Flipgrid Live last year, I presented there last year and so I feel like I know them and they know me.”

Underdown is a member of GCU's online faculty.

The company is using the new approach in the hoping of getting out more information about its products. Underdown and the other 23 board members will be tasked with giving their feedback as changes are implemented.

Underdown has been working with the company for more than a year and has found ways of implementing its technology into her courses.

“I use Flipgrid a lot here at GCU,” Underdown said. “I create a lot of grids that I share with people, and so it’s really just about using the technology and then giving feedback on it for future changes for any glitches or anything that we see that maybe could be improved upon.”

She encourages faculty members who have not tried the platform to use it in their classrooms as well as in building business relationships with other companies and professionals.

“Engaging with different companies and products and people on Twitter is a really great way to have professional development that is on our own time,” she said. “That’s how I found out about so many opportunities, including this one, and I just encourage people to go out there and find something that they can connect with.”

All 24 for the executive board members will be publicly announced and celebrated during Flipgrid Live at 7 p.m. Monday. The executive board is scheduled to begin its work in early August.

Bible Verse

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. (Hebrews 11:13)
