The boys who spend the week at the Grand Canyon University Men’s Basketball Camps get a lot of perks, and this year there’s an added bonus: use of the new basketball practice facility.
Of course, for a lot of them the highlight is getting great basketball instruction all day plus a T-shirt, a catered lunch and lots of other goodies. The campers typically fill the Lopes Performance Center as well as either Antelope Gym or GCU Arena, and the recently completed basketball practice court will be used as well.
The camps, in their fifth year under coach Dan Majerle and his staff, are more popular than ever. Signups are about 50 percent ahead of last year’s pace, according to Luke DallaRiva, director of basketball operations.
Registration fees for the individual camps, for boys ages 6-14, are as follows:
Camp I (June 5-8, GCU campus): $240 by May 22, $250 after that.
Camp II (June 19-22, GCU campus): $240 by June 5, $250 after that.
Camp III (June 26-29, Scottsdale Community College): $260 by June 12, $275 after that.
There is a $90 discount for additional camps or siblings, and GCU employees get a $25 discount for their children.
There also are camps on June 1-3 and 15-17 for high school teams, and GCU Arena and the basketball practice facility both will be utilized. The cost of $425 per team includes a minimum of five games, certified officials, a T-shirt for players and a gift for coaches.
