“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’" — Jeremiah 29:11
This passage is among my favorite of all the verses in the Bible. It reminds me that God has a plan for me, one that will benefit me and not hurt me. This message has been so encouraging to me at times when I wasn’t clear on where I was headed and if I would be successful in my pursuits. It often has provided just the encouragement I needed to move forward.
I must admit that worry often gets in my way, and I wonder about the what-ifs. What if I can’t accomplish the task? What if other people don’t like my efforts? What if I’m not equipped for the task? What if I can’t do “it” right? What if I’m unsuccessful? At times such as these, I find encouragement and comfort in this passage, which reminds me that God has a plan for me and will assure that His plans for me are, indeed, successful, despite all of my doubts.
These words from Jeremiah 29:11 have been encouraging to so many in various situations. When someone is feeling lost and uninspired, these words can offer much-needed encouragement. When someone is feeling hopeless and/or fearful, Jeremiah’s passage can provide a new perspective that fosters hope and reduces fear. Other times, people don’t see much purpose in their lives, and these words can provide an important message from God that there is a plan for them.
God has a plan for each of us, and this plan, as Jeremiah states, is one of hope and promise, something we all need to be reminded of, especially in times of despair. God truly has a plan and a purpose for each one of us, and His plans will not be undone by our missteps, doubts and worries.
Jeremiah 29:11 can be a powerful message to witness to others who need to hear God’s Word and His promise, as well as to His most faithful followers. He loves us and wants only the best for us in all situations.
