What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important?

My most notable accomplishment has been becoming the Course Lead for BIT 200, Introduction to Information Technology, a foundation course for all students entering the Colangelo College of Business. This responsibility has given me an opportunity to help guide new students and equip them with core skills necessary to successfully progress in their degree programs and begin preparing for their careers.

What are you most passionate about in your field and why?

I am most passionate about teaching my students computer skills that extend beyond social media and texting. I want to build their technology acumen and help them develop a technology expertise that is transferable across disciplines and will make them viable candidates in the job market.

What is a memorable moment you had in class, and what does that reveal about your teaching style?

I have had several memorable moments. The best ones are when I have a student as a freshman in my BIT 200 course and then again as a senior in my MGT 455 course. I feel like I was part of their entire college experience, and it is gratifying to see them grow from a recent high school graduate to an adult beginning a full-time career.  These moments reveal that I was an integral part of my student’s academic progression and professional growth, which is extremely rewarding.

What do you like to do for fun in your spare time?

Because of the health restrictions, I don’t spend much time outside of my house.

My oldest daughter is an Elite Clubs National League soccer player. Occasionally, I can watch her soccer games from a distance. My younger daughter is a swimmer for the Phoenix Swim Club. I have never seen her swim competitively, but I attend her swim meets virtually and occasionally catch a glimpse of her in a pool.

I also just bought a new (but very old) home in central Phoenix, and I love fixing it up! A recent project was stripping paint from fireplace tiles. Exciting!

What is something interesting about you that most people don't know?

Most people don’t know that I lived in Paris. I have been piranha fishing on the Amazon River. I have taught at the college level for more than 18 years, and the first subjects I taught were financial accounting, international business and Latin American studies.
