What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important?
Earning my Ph.D. at age 61. It was the most challenging and frustrating experience I have endured and took me seven years, but it showed my resilience and my perseverance to achieve a goal.
What are you most passionate about in your field and why?
Getting to know my students as much as possible and communicating to them that I care about them, and then hopefully they will see Jesus Christ in me.
What is a memorable moment you had in class, and what does that reveal about your teaching style?
Without doubt, the most memorable moment I had was helping a particular student every night who was struggling with algebra. She was in danger of failing, and she credits me with pulling her through and helping her achieve her bachelor's degree in nursing. When she graduated with her master's in nursing, she invited me to her ceremony and gifted me with her graduation stole because she said she never would have made it to her master's if I had not helped her with that course. I guess it reveals that I consider every student worth the time and effort to see them succeed.
What do you like to do for fun in your spare time?
I love to study the Bible and, specifically, the Jewish roots of the Christian faith. I also bought a decent bicycle last Thanksgiving and now ride about 20 miles per day as many days a week as I can.
What is something interesting about you that most people don't know?
Before I was married, I toured for a summer as a singer in an international music ministry group. We proclaimed and ministered the gospel through music throughout the U.S. and also in Eastern Europe and specifically Yugoslavia immediately before the Yugoslav Wars broke out, leading to the breakup of the country.
