DR. CHIN-HUN YI (aka JAMES)

Chin-Hun Yi

Title: Online full-time faculty (OFTF)

Years at GCU: 1 year

Academic degrees: Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership with Specialization in Information Systems and Technology, Master of Business Administration in Technology Management, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology

Notable employment in your field: More than 14 years as a systems administrator, more than 11 years as an online faculty, more than 5 years as a ground faculty

What are you most passionate about in your field? IT drives businesses these days and is a very important part of business operation. All students need to have adequate information systems and technology knowledge to be able to adapt to ever-changing workplace environment. I am excited to be able to provide some background on that to our students.

What aspect of your teaching style is the most distinctive and/or memorable? Providing customer service is very important to students. Reaching out to students, understanding their situations, empathizing, working with them and being a supportive Christian brother are all important and are my style. I do my best to exercise the servant leader with students. Of course, that does not mean they get special treatment against the school policies. They are just getting extra attention so they can follow the requirements.

What do you like to do for fun in your spare time? Work! Just kidding! But that is somewhat true. I check in on online classes from time to time when I am off. For actual fun, I spend time with my family, watch good movies and occasionally eat out with the family.

What is something interesting about you that most people don't know? I have practiced tae kwon do (Korean martial arts) for more than 20 years. I don’t practice any more, but I would do it again if time is allowed. I also served as a choir member for a long time and led the choir as a conductor at times at a few churches when I lived in Massachusetts. I was going to major in music, and that really helped.
