What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important?
There have been many moments in my teaching career that have been notable to me. However, the most notable accomplishment in my field was being awarded the City of Phoenix's Love Your Block Mini Grant. The grant allowed the community and the Roosevelt School District's Early Childhood Resource Center to work together. Together, we cleaned the community, painted a mural and ribboned a fence.
This accomplishment was important to me because it encompassed the foundation of early childhood education by including aspects of the community, culture and families. Also, the mural will be around for years to come.
What are you most passionate about in your field and why?
Diversity awareness in the classroom. The educational system has been the same for hundreds of years, yet the world and people have changed. If teachers are unable to change the educational system, it is imperative for teachers to change the narratives inside their classrooms.
What is a memorable moment you had in class, and what does that reveal about your teaching style?
Recently, a former student informed me that the book she had been writing was completed and published. She said, "Yay! Thank you so much for your support!! You were such a huge help with this book."
What do you like to do for fun in your spare time?
I like to hike or watch action movies.
What is something interesting about you that most people don't know?
I created a health and wholeness agency. My brand focuses on seven lifestyle areas for a holistic approach. Those lifestyle areas include faith, physical, nutrition, finances, relationships, travel and pleasure (fun). My company specializes in creating and maintaining the healthier habits needed for one’s journey -- also known as non-negotiable habits.
