What is your most notable accomplishment in your field, and why was it important?

As an undergraduate, I was part of the Honors program in Sociology. The first time I had ever met another Korean adoptee was during this research. I learned that sometimes passion and research can positively impact the process. The other adoptees were very interested in learning more about my findings, and this really solidified my passion for research.

What are you most passionate about in your field and why?

I am passionate about sociology because it challenges you to question and explore your understanding of the social world. I am fascinated by social behavior and want to understand lived experiences from perspectives beyond my own.

What is a memorable moment you had in class, and what does that reveal about your teaching style?

A memorable moment I had in class was a fun topic for a final exam that consisted of a short answer response. Given the topic of our class, I provided a scenario involving Santa Claus, elves and flying reindeer and asked them to provide an explanation based on a theory we had covered. My students smiled and laughed.

I want my students to enjoy learning and try to find meaningful connections to their social worlds and experiences. I try to teach concepts in a memorable way, whether it be through personal examples or comical examples. I want learning to be something to be excited about.

What do you like to do for fun in your spare time?

My spare time is spent with my family, Grayson and Eliana (ages 3.5 and 2) and my husband. I love to FaceTime with family and friends but also take time to watch my favorite HGTV shows and be inspired by all the DIY projects I could do if only I had more spare time!

What is something interesting about you that most people don't know?

I was a competitive gymnast for more than 10 years and continue to be involved in the sport as a judging official at local and national competitions. I can still do a few skills (very few) that I am trying to teach my 2-year-old daughter.

Bible Verse

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. (Hebrews 11:13)
