A group of Grand Canyon University counseling program faculty members recently completed a department-led faculty conference for first-year ground and online faculty.
As part of the conference, faculty traveled across the country to the GCU campus to participate in community, fellowship and continuing education opportunities. The goal was to enhance their professional development and fortify trust, togetherness and collaboration among the counselling faculty members.
Three faculty members made presentations. They included:

Dr. Patrice Bennett on “The Art of Becoming: A Cultural Exploration.” Bennett provided an experimental exercise where participants disclosed their cultural identity, how they grew as counselor educators and what they aim to be known for within their personal and professional lives.

Dr. Victoria Evans-Fulton on "Trauma-Informed Assessment in Complex Family Systems: Building Clinical Competence." Evans-Fulton displayed a comprehensive conceptualization process of trauma-informed care and responsiveness. She also spoke about reducing differences of knowledge between clinical evaluations and the classroom.
Dr. Kimberlee Mincey on “Teaching with Compassion in Pedagogy: Applying ACT/DBT Skills to Strengthen Counselor-in-Training Development.” Mincey fostered a discussion about the foundational aspects of providing compassion in the classroom and how powerful compassion can be as a catalyst for students and clients.

Participating faculty members included: Dr. Armando Peelman, Dr. DeeDee Wednesday, Dr. Katye Galloway, Dr. Myra Wilkinson, Dr. Erica Varner-Anderson, Dr. Daniel Reyes, Dr. Myshalae Euring, Dr. Sarah Patterson-Mills, Bennett, Dr. Renee Starr, Dr. Tanisha Guy, Desiree Jackson, Dr. Anna Edgeston, Dr. Liesl Hecht, Dr. Christina McGraw, Dr. Kimberly Griggs, Dr. Melissa Galica, Dr. Marcia LeBeau, Dr. Jermeckia Sandefer, Dr. Mary Dainty, Dr. Jay Krivos, Dr. Cynthia Williams, Dr. Kate Forristal, Dr. Marcie Burger, Evans-Fulton, Mincey, Dr. James Powell, Dr. Rebecca Richey, Dr. Yolanda Crunch, and Dr. Melissa Milliken.
