When the community looks for a partner to help serve its most vulnerable populations, GCU has answered that call in a big way.
The University has wrapped its arms around such groups as youth in foster care, children with autism and adults with neurodiversities. “Ultimately, what it comes down to is, what should be the defining characteristics of a Christian university? And this should be one of the defining characteristics of a Christian university,” said GCU President Brian Mueller in the cover story of the April issue of GCU Magazine.
The issue also features the inspiring story of baseball pitcher Daniel Avitia, who has gone from Alhambra High School a half mile away in west Phoenix to becoming a three-year GCU ace and a Major League Baseball Draft prospect; Alumni Hall-of-Famer Shawn Boskie, who started his own Christian film production company after a successful baseball career; the stellar work of students in the Research and Design Program, which prepares students for graduate school; how student worker jobs are giving students hands-on experience and preparing them for jobs after graduation; and the Varkey brothers, who were home-schooled before college, excelled academically at GCU and now are doing the same in their careers.
