Antelope Intros: Wade Wedow and Toni Barrett Druilhet

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

WADE WEDOW

Job title: University development representative

Job location: Aurora, Colo.

What attracted you to GCU? I was recruited by the GCU baseball program while I was in high school. I turned down the offer but was still interested in the University because of its Christian ideals, its success and its location. I wanted to be able to work where I could practice my Christian faith. I loved the idea of a for-profit institution, especially a Christian one run the right way. Going back to my baseball days, I grew to love Arizona because I traveled there often for tournaments growing up.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I enjoy grilling, hiking, camping, playing baseball/softball, coaching athletes, Frolfing (disc golf), working out and learning new things.

What are you passionate about? I like hearing about people’s goals and coaching them to help them achieve those goals. So wherever that might be in the aspect of wellness, I find enjoyment throughout the entire recruiting process with prospective students.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? Spring training, Camelback Mountain and, of course, GCU’s stunning campus.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I set a conference record when I was at Central Christian College of Kansas (McPherson) by becoming the first person to play all 10 positions, including designated hitter.

What are you most proud of? Coaching baseball at the semi-professional level and receiving a leadership award when I graduated. That’s right, they not only gave me a plaque, but they paid me to graduate. The award winner received a “scholarship” upon graduation.

TONI BARRETT DRUILHET

Job title: University development representative

Job location: Houston

What attracted you to GCU? The opportunity to make a difference in a student’s life. The ability to share GCU’s programs and resources with current and potential students. Most important, showcasing how these programs and resources can help accomplish their goals and fulfill their dreams.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Outdoor activities such as sports, festivals, parks, etc. My spouse and I are finally “empty nesters” — we miss the kids but are lovin’ it.  My oldest son is married and has given us four wonderful grandkids who I have the pleasure of spoiling whenever I feel the need. My middle son, so proud of him, is in the U.S. Air Force and is currently on tour in Afghanistan — keep him in prayer for a safe return.  My youngest, my beautiful daughter, is on a track scholarship at LSU and is doing amazing things.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about doing whatever I can for those who have a “want” to do better. Everyone wants something. The key is to find the true “want” from deep down and work backward to help them see how their goals and dreams are not farfetched. I love painting the “big picture” and showing them the little simple things that make a big difference.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: Don’t mean to “toot my own horn,” but when I tell folks about my grandkids the first thing they say is, “You don’t look as if you have grandkids.” I am closer to 50 than 40 and, if I must say so myself, I look good.  God has blessed me tremendously. I have nothing to complain about. I have nothing I want. I have nothing I need. Life is beautiful and I pray my children will live the same life as long as they continue to keep God first.

What are you most proud of? My children. They are making it. They are happy. They are Christians.

Bible Verse

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. (Hebrews 11:13)
