Antelope Intros: Vicki Cox, Ingrid Bayer, Cammie Bjarnsan

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is both fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

VICKI COX

Job title:  Online Enrollment Counselor-Military

Job location: Peoria

What attracted you to GCU?  The fact GCU is a Christian university and the culture at GCU.

What are you passionate about? I lost my 9-year-old boy, Jeramiah, to a very rare cancer 10 months ago. I learned through his health trek that nutrition is key to maintaining health and combating illness. I was also blessed to learn how to deal with cancer pain naturally. Jeramiah did not have cancer pain and did not use pharmaceuticals, yet was pain free and had a quality of life until his last breath.  I have developed a (charitable) foundation in Jeramiah’s honor and work with patients and families of catastrophic illness.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit?  I have not had much free time in the past two years as I was sole caretaker of Jeramiah and we only moved here shortly before he was diagnosed. I have been to the Irish cultural center and really enjoyed that. (I have some Irish blood …)

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:  I appear to be a strong person yet I am so tender and compassionate. Need a hug? Come see me!

What are you most proud of?  That I was blessed in being chosen to raise such and incredible young man and his amazing sister, Hannah!

INGRID BAYER

Job title:  Curriculum Developer

Job location: Annex I

What attracted you to GCU?  I have been visiting GCU with my high school students for the past three years and was impressed with the growth of the campus and also the positive experience I had here with my students. They earned scholarships and felt very welcomed here.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to cook, hike and ski and enjoy music and writing.

What are you passionate about? Education and helping our young people.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit?  Enjoy concerts, festivals and the arts.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:  I was born in Austria and German is my first language.

What are you most proud of?  My three sons.

CAMMIE BJARNSON

Job title:  Financial Aid Counselor

Job location: Tempe

What attracted you to GCU?  I was working with another school and during our all-employee meeting I was seeing that GCU was the only one growing within higher education.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? My husband, son and I love to go camping just up on Power by the lake. We also like to just do things around town.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about helping the students in the right way and also taking care of my family.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit?  We do a lot of church activates within the LDS church and during this time of year we go to the LDS temple lights.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:  Seeing as I am new to this company, many people do not know me. I have been working in finance for 10 years now, first starting at a bank and then the last four years doing the financial aid for schools.

What are you most proud of?  My family. Especially my 3-year-old son. He is my pride and joy and has gone through so much in his short life.
