RUTH A. DOUTHITT
Job title: Curriculum developer
Job location: 27th Avenue
What attracted you to GCU? I attended Grand Canyon College (1985-87) and always have loved this school. I remember when the campus was mostly empty grass fields, and I studied inside the original library building. Yep, I’m that old.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to train for and run marathons, ultra-marathons, and triathlons — I’m crazy that way. I also love to hike the mountain trails around Phoenix, go to movies (Star Wars geek — I saw the original movie at the Cine Capri in 1977) and try new restaurants with my husband.
What are you passionate about? Writing and my art because I use these as ways to express myself. I taught writing/language arts to middle school students for four years, and you can see my art instruction videos on my YouTube channel. I plan on having writing instruction videos up soon. I am passionate about teaching others ways to express themselves.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love browsing through Changing Hands Bookstore, eating dinner at the Hyatt Regency Compass Room and shopping at Desert Ridge. My favorite event is when Arizona Cardinals football starts each year!
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I was born on the Seventh Avenue bridge in downtown Phoenix. My father delivered me in the car. I was two weeks early and couldn’t wait to be born. I still find it hard to wait for things to this day!
What are you most proud of? My books! I have five books I have written available on Amazon and a sixth book on the way. I also am proud of my 21-year-old son and my 28-year marriage with my hubby (my high school sweetheart).

KATALINA INZUNZA
Job title: Career services assistant
Job location: Main campus
What attracted you to GCU? I’m a recent graduate of GCU. I have been here since my freshman year in 2012, back when Jazzman’s Café was what gave us our caffeine boost and when books were kept in Fleming Library (now the Academic Affairs building). I’m just really excited that I get to see how GCU continues to grow during this new chapter.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I like to sing, paint and bake as an outlet for my stress. I was an alto in the Canyon Chorale here on campus, and I don’t mind having to wash paint out of my hair whenever I get in an artsy mood. I enjoy baking for my loved ones, and the reviews say my German chocolate cake is amazing.
What are you passionate about? I’m a strong advocate for mental health. I want to educate others and reduce the social stigma that affects and prevents individuals from seeking treatment. I want to dedicate myself to help those who often are silenced in order to help them achieve a better quality of life.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love spending time in downtown Phoenix. My favorite places to go to are the Phoenix Theatre and the Phoenix Art Museum for some culture and Lux Café for their amazing mac 'n' cheese and pastries!
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: While I am a known lover of classical music, Broadway and opera, my favorite artist is Kanye West. A lot of people are surprised when he comes on the radio and I can rap along with every line.
What are you most proud of? I am proud to be a first-generation college graduate and also of the fact that I will continue my education all the way to the doctorate level until I achieve my goal of becoming a clinical psychologist.
