RECHELLE NETTLES

Rechelle Nettles

Job title:  University development counselor

Job location: Oakland, CA (online)

What attracted you to GCU?  The color purple — black is my favorite color, however purple is captivating. I have also been in higher education for nearly 8 years and that is how I know about GCU. I worked at the University of Phoenix in three different states — Texas, Louisiana, and California. My last position with UOPX was in 2015 with the military position covering Northern California, Northern Nevada and Southern Oregon.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? The gym is my outlet for fun. I like cardio and weight training.

What are you passionate about? Adult education. I enjoy working with the adult learner to help them reach their professional goals.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit?  I really like Ticoz, a latin restaurant in Phoenix.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:  I like to cook. Two of my favorite dishes are lasagna and gumbo. I attended undergraduate school in Louisiana and learned to prepare an amazing roux.

What are you most proud of?  I’m most proud of my two girls Charlie, 4, and Stevie, 16, and of my doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership.

Sandy Ross

SANDY ROSS

Job title:  University development counselor

Job location: East Wenatchee, Washington

What attracted you to GCU?  GCU is a top tier university and a great institution to work for. I’m proud to be a Lope!

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I’ve spent a lifetime playing hockey so my local ice rink is a favorite place to hang out. There’s nothing quite like the fresh smell of cold arena air mixed with the pungent odor of hockey equipment.

What are you passionate about? My wife and I have been married for almost 37 years and we’ve raised five wonderful children. We all still love to hang out together. It’s easy to be passionate about my family. Even more so now that we get to spoil 6 grandkids!

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit?  Haven’t really had time to explore the Phoenix area but Sedona and the Grand Canyon are definitely on my list.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:  I played D1 hockey at Colgate University and was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL.

What are you most proud of?  I’m proud that my kids all love each other unconditionally and that my wife and I are best friends. Having had great success throughout my professional career is also a source of great pride!

Bible Verse

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. (Hebrews 11:13)
