MELODY WRIGHT
Job title: Online university counselor
Job location: Peoria
What attracted you to GCU? I know two other university counselors, and both have talked highly of GCU. One even said it is the best job he has ever had!
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to watch TV. Binge watching Netflix is my jam. I also like to cook and bake although I have never mastered pie crust! I can’t cook on weekdays right now because it's hard with working full-time and having an 8 month old and 3 year old. Thank God for crock pots! Some of my favorite foods to cook are lasagna and chili. Saturdays are usually the day to cook a big breakfast and big dinner for my family.
What are you passionate about? I am passionate about God, my family and friends and "Gilmore Girls." I started watching "Gilmore Girls" in high school, and I was drawn to the fast talking, the coffee obsession and the mother/daughter relationship that Lorelai and Rory had.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I am a small-town girl from Mishawaka, Ind. It's a little city near the University of Notre Dame, which means living in a city this big can stress me out. Sometimes I need to escape the chaos, but Prescott is too far away. In those cases, Anthem is awesome. You get that small-town feel, and it’s only a 15-minute drive. Going to Mortimer Farms in the fall to pick out pumpkins is also fun.
What are you most proud of? I was promoted to manager of the financial institution I worked for in Indiana. It wasn’t something I was gunning for, but the director of my department saw something in me. That level of trust in my ability as a leader meant a lot. I left my management position when we moved to Arizona for a job for my husband. He is the director of worship and student ministries at our church. When it became obvious that we needed two incomes, I thought I would try for a position at GCU. I only heard good things about it, I knew a couple of people who worked here and I liked that it was a Christian university. I’m happy I got hired! I’m looking forward to pursuing my career and furthering my education with GCU!
