Antelope Intros: Marquis Scott, Tammye Brownlee and Andrew Nordstrom

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

MARQUIS SCOTT

Job title:  Director of Internships

Job location: Ken Blanchard College of Business

What attracted you to GCU? I am a doctoral student with GCU, and the growth taking place is contagious and drew me in as an employee as well.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? For fun I try to find a good bid whist or dominoes. Or movie time with family members. Not good at golf yet, but enjoy the game.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about living to the best of my ability and using the talents and abilities God has given me to help others be their best.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? Taking my granddaughters Cadence and Nani to the Children’s Museum and seeing their light bulbs of inquiry come on.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I hosted the All Sports Satellite Network at EMG Networks.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my wife, Angela Karolyn Scott, who was selected for an internship at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu to complete her doctoral degree in clinical psychology, and my four children and two granddaughters, who do their best to be their best every day.

TAMMYE BROWNLEE

Job title: University Development Representative

Job location: Chicago South and Northwest Indiana

What attracted you to GCU? GCU’s innovative spirit attracted me to this University and drew me to this position. I believe in GCU’s ability to help students and staff find their purpose by focusing on academic advancement and Christian camaraderie. I love the fact that GCU is the first of its kind, placing the needs of its students at the forefront by building its ground campus and drawing a growing online base. I can recall earlier in my career, nearly10 years ago, working in e-learning and stating, “I wish my students could meet me personally,” and they would often say the same. Now they can.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love traveling, trying new sushi restaurants, and going for long meditative walks to create the work/life balance many of us seek in higher education. Any activities involving an airplane and chopsticks – I’m there!

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about education.  I love helping others and, in turn, I also feel fulfilled. I believe in the power of education and its true return on investment. I have worked at several universities in Illinois and Florida, and all the students I have connected with are the same – everyone wants a better life, and this is what education provides. I am also incredibly passionate about meeting new people and listening to their story. Everyone has one.

What are your favorite places or events that you like to visit? My favorite places to visit are my former homes, Miami, Clearwater Beach, RA Sushi – all locations – any place exotic with a beach, Paris ... I have spoken French all my life.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I have an identical twin sister, who also works in education, for the University of Kansas. We didn’t talk for about two weeks (which is really long for twins) when I got VIP tickets to Oprah’s final show and took my mom instead of her.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my educational background and academic achievements from being a National Merit Scholar to getting my MBA and Six Sigma Certification. I am currently considering the Master of Science in Leadership at GCU to get firsthand knowledge of the programs.

ANDREW S. NORDSTROM

Job title: Quality Specialist

Job location: Peoria

What attracted you to GCU? I became an online student at GCU out of Cedar City, Utah, in February 2010. Before October 2009, I had never heard of GCU. Then, in 2011, with the help of GCU, I finally reached one of my biggest dreams by getting a bachelor’s degree. In March of this year, I went a step further and got a my master’s degree through GCU. I also just started my doctoral program through GCU. So I decided to work for GCU to help other people have the same success with education that I have.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to spend time with my wife and children. My wife and I have four children. Also, for the past five and a half years, every Saturday night, I play StarCraft 2 with my friends.

What are you passionate about? I never graduated from high school because of a learning disability that was not discovered until my senior year in high school. During this time frame, I had a teacher tell me point blank that I would never contribute to society. Because of this, I was scared of higher education, and I never seriously pursued a college education until I was 41. I finally got my bachelor’s degree when I was 42. So I am passionate about helping other people obtain their education.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I just moved here on July 8, so I'm still pretty new here in the Valley. But I have found that Castles and Coasters is fun. I also have been to the Mesa Temple, Wet and Wild and the Glendale drive-in movie theatre with my family.

What are you most proud of? My relationship with Jesus Christ and my wife and children.
